Instituto TIM’s public notice to support science and technology museums and centers was launched in Brasília during the 11th National Week of Science and Technology, held by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI). During the closing ceremony in Brasília, on October 19th, the secretary of Science and Technology for Social Inclusion of MCTI, Oswaldo Duarte, informed that the request for proposals is an initiative of Instituto TIM in partnership with the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
“For the first time we have partnered with a private company, Instituto TIM, to make a request for proposals to promote science,” said Duarte. The public notice will soon be posted on CNPq’s website and projects received will be evaluated by Instituto TIM, with CNPq and MCTI, in 2014. The focus of actions to be supported are activities of promotion, education and development of projects and products on the theme of light in celebration of the International Year of Light – celebrated in 2015 by the General Assembly of the United Nations decision –, as well as initiatives that promote scientific disclosure and aim at contributing significantly to the popularization and dissemination of this theme. The theme of light will also guide the next National Week of Science and Technology, to be held in 2015.
In order to apply, the initiatives of science and technology museums and centers should be directed to the 4-10 years old audience. “We have seen that most of the activities are now directed to children over 10, although we know that they should have contact with science and technology as early as possible,” said the director of the Department of Dissemination and Popularization of Science and Technology of MCTI, Douglas Falcão, during the closing ceremony of SNCT 2014.
