The Agentes da Transformação project, held by the Instituto TIM and Pereira Passos Institute (a Rio de Janeiro City Government agency), won the 2014 ARede Award, in the Public Interest Content category, in the Private Sector group. The award is an initiative from ARede magazine and seeks to reward and promote social inclusion initiatives that use Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The awarding ceremony was held in São Paulo-SP on the evening of November 17th.

The president of Instituto TIM, Manoel Horacio, and the president of Pereira Passos Institute, Eduarda La Rocque, took to the stage to receive the award. Both thanked the organization for the recognition and spoke about the importance of the project, which, in addition to providing data on youths in the pacified communities who are not usually covered in traditional research, also offers an alternative professional qualification to the young researchers.

Eduarda commented that she would like to expand the Agentes da Transformação project beyond Rio de Janeiro, and advocated public-private partnerships. On the other hand, Manoel Horacio made a reflection on the fact that sometimes young people from Rio’s communities seem to be condemned to have few opportunities, while the Agentes da Transformação project helps to expand those opportunities. He also thanked Pereira Passos Institute and the organization of the award and noted that Instituto TIM is still very young – it has been around for a year and a half.

The ARede Award has existed for eight years and has brought together over a thousand projects. In 2014, over 200 projects competed in the areas of internet, radio, video and other multimedia resources, from all parts of the country, developed by civil society organizations, governments, foundations, institutes and companies.
