Instituto TIM has made official a partnership with the Ministry of Culture (MinC) in order to provide support for the use of the Mapas Culturais free software by the National System for Cultural Information and Indicators (SNIIC). The agreement was celebrated on November 17th at a meeting in Brasilia-DF between Juca Ferreira, minister of Culture, Mario Girasole, Instituto TIM general manager, as well as representatives from MinC and Instituto TIM.

SNIIC, a system that gathers data and information pertaining to cultural objects from all over the country, has started using the software developed by Instituto TIM this October. The SNIIC database is now available along with data from the Living Culture Network at the Map of Culture platform (deployment of Mapas Culturais), which will also integrate other MinC systems. “Brazil can now enjoy the possibility of having more accurate data and a map of the Brazilian cultural universe, that is, cultural activities, groups, manifestations and equipments. As this possibility is being developed, it will make it easier for cultural groups to carry out their activities,” said the minister.

Instituto TIM’s help shall be provided by means of technical support in the development and improvements directed at the platform and training of MinC managers. The objective is to have these managers provide support and training to states and municipalities that wish to implement the Mapas Culturais platform. Next year, the aim is to have these data from the national platform integrated to the data from the state and municipal platforms that adopt the software, improving the management of cultural indicators nationwide and the monitoring of the National Culture Plan.

“Mapas Culturais brings technology and public management closer together, encouraging the development of new policies and especially collaborating with the dissemination of cultural initiatives throughout the country,” declared Mario Girasole. In addition to MinC, other six municipalities and three states have already implemented the software free of charge: São Paulo-SP, Sobral -CE, Blumenau-SC, João Pessoa-PB, São José dos Campos-SP, Santo André-SP, and the States of Ceará, Rio Grande do Sul and Tocantins.
